Important Medical Notice

This page is for informational purposes only. It does not create a veterinarian-client-patient relationship, does not replace an examination by a licensed veterinarian, and does not authorize any medication, treatment, or prescription refill.

1. Veterinary-Client-Patient Relationship

A valid Veterinary-Client-Patient Relationship, also known as a VCPR, is legally required before Ivy Pets Veterinary Clinic may prescribe medication, authorize refills, or provide certain medical recommendations.

A VCPR generally requires that your pet has been examined by one of our licensed veterinarians or that our veterinary team has sufficient recent knowledge of your pet’s medical condition through ongoing care.

Ivy Pets Veterinary Clinic reserves the right to refuse, delay, or deny any prescription, refill request, or pharmacy authorization if a valid VCPR has not been established or if additional medical evaluation is required.

2. Prescription Medications

Prescription medications are issued only for the individual pet for whom they were prescribed. Medications must be used exactly as directed by your veterinarian.

  • Do not share your pet’s medication with another animal.
  • Do not change the dosage without veterinary approval.
  • Do not stop, restart, or combine medications without speaking to a veterinarian.
  • Do not use expired medication or medication prescribed for another pet.
  • Contact Ivy Pets immediately if your pet experiences side effects or unusual symptoms.

3. No Online Diagnosis or Treatment

Information provided through this website, phone calls, email, text messages, online forms, social media, or other digital communication channels is for general informational purposes only.

Such communication does not constitute a veterinary diagnosis, treatment plan, prescription, refill authorization, or emergency medical advice.

A physical examination, updated medical history, laboratory testing, or additional diagnostics may be required before medication or treatment can be recommended.

4. Prescription Refills

Prescription refills are not automatic and are subject to veterinary review and approval. In some cases, your pet may need a follow-up examination, updated lab work, blood testing, diagnostic imaging, or other medical evaluation before a refill can be approved.

Ivy Pets Veterinary Clinic may deny or delay a refill request if the medication is no longer medically appropriate, if your pet’s condition has changed, if required monitoring has not been completed, or if the veterinarian determines that further evaluation is necessary.

5. Outside and Online Pharmacies

If you choose to fill your pet’s prescription through an outside pharmacy, online pharmacy, or third-party provider, Ivy Pets Veterinary Clinic is not responsible for any issue caused by that pharmacy or provider.

  • Incorrect medication or incorrect dosage
  • Medication substitutions
  • Shipping delays
  • Temperature exposure or improper storage
  • Dispensing errors
  • Product quality, authenticity, or expiration concerns
  • Communication delays between the pharmacy and our clinic

Ivy Pets Veterinary Clinic may require reasonable processing time to review and respond to pharmacy requests.

6. Medication Safety and Owner Responsibility

Pet owners are responsible for following all medication instructions, dosage guidelines, storage requirements, and follow-up recommendations provided by Ivy Pets Veterinary Clinic.

You are also responsible for notifying our team about your pet’s current medications, supplements, allergies, medical history, pregnancy status, known sensitivities, or any changes in health condition.

7. Adverse Reactions and Emergencies

Any medication may carry potential risks, including side effects, allergic reactions, drug interactions, or unexpected medical complications.

If your pet experiences severe symptoms, difficulty breathing, collapse, seizures, severe vomiting, facial swelling, extreme weakness, or any urgent medical concern, seek emergency veterinary care immediately.

Ivy Pets Veterinary Clinic is not a substitute for emergency veterinary services when immediate medical attention is required.

8. Controlled Substances

Certain medications may be regulated as controlled substances and are subject to additional legal requirements, medical review, identification, recordkeeping, refill restrictions, and clinic policies.

Ivy Pets Veterinary Clinic reserves the right to refuse or limit controlled substance prescriptions when medically inappropriate, legally restricted, or inconsistent with clinic policy.

9. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Ivy Pets Veterinary Clinic disclaims liability for damages, injuries, complications, losses, or adverse outcomes resulting from:

  • Improper use of prescribed medications
  • Failure to follow veterinary instructions
  • Use of medication without authorization
  • Use of medication prescribed for another pet
  • Delays in seeking veterinary or emergency care
  • Incomplete or inaccurate information provided by the pet owner
  • Errors, delays, substitutions, or quality issues involving third-party pharmacies

10. Policy Updates

Ivy Pets Veterinary Clinic may update, revise, or modify this Prescription Disclaimer at any time without prior notice. Continued use of our website or services means you accept the current version of this policy.
